They also have a lot of low income and elderly people in the community who need help. Recently Safe Haven helped an elderly couple with 20 cats and a number of dogs. Their volunteers helped to clean up their property and paid for a vet to care for their pets. Safe Haven Sanctuary is close to my heart because our causes are mutually trying to protect and preserve the quality of life. Healthy people make healthy families and healthy families provide healthy homes for extended members of the family such as dogs, cats, birds, fish and all creatures of affection. Mutual Affection
Artist Notes Mutual Affection was made September 2009 for Safe Haven Sanctuary. I was inspired by both our causes as we are both helping abused and neglected members of the family. Most importantly, the image itself was inspired by the life of Jessica Beth, a dear woman I support and care for. The 3-D original hangs 2'x2' is sand painted on 1/4" wood backing. Element of surprise
Artist Notes Element of Surprise was made September 2009 for Safe Haven Sanctuary. I was inspired by the safe family home environments needed for animals. I recalled when I was adopted as a child how Tigger, our cat would creep up behind me and surprise me with his gentle rub against the back of my leg. He was so cute purring along. Benjie, our dog was often seen laying somewhere in the house. This piece grew from something simple to something more meaningful as I painted. Enjoy. the rem symbol
Artist Notes The REM Symbol, is the a tie died version of my signature marking. I created the piece in 2007 and have held on to it until now. It is an honor to give the piece for this cause. The 3-D original hangs 24"x32" and is sand painted on unstretched canvas laid over 1/4" wood backing. The bamboo rods are woven into the canvas. The bamboos symbolize strength and structure. Two Faced
Artist Notes Two Faced is available in Archival Print Only. I was inspired by two thoughts with this piece. First, how two faced people tend to be exposed by hear say... thus the second face is embedded in the ear. Secondly, I made her old, because we are always hearing in our heads what we don't wish to have happen to us in our old age. So the piece has two faces but is also Two Faced. Enjoy. Artist Notes Tree of Life was one of my fastest works ever. From thought to the time I set my brush down took me One hour! I was inspired by the thought of how woman are in fact tress of life! That simple thought gave birth to this piece, "The Tree of Life" In all our joy and with all our being we stretch out our arms and surrender to the greatest sacrifice known... the birthing of life. Basking in thought
Artist Notes Basking In Thought was sold to the wife of the President of Union Mission, Georgia. It is one of my "Beach Body" works, a collection of sand sculptures on a sand painted beach scene. This work was sold while still setting! The print is captured from the posed work. My inspiration came while painting on the beach and noticing a woman basking with only her toes in the water. Enjoy. Artist Notes Fertility was inspired by the hormonal experiences of a pregnant woman. As her child's cells multiply within her, she feels and adapts to the changes inside and outside of her. How I wrapped my mind around this and projected it onto canvas, even I am still wondering! The original of this work was done having a very wet look.
